Mumbai Indians are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 8 of the Indian Premier League 2024 in Hyderabad. Mumbai won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision turned out to be a nightmarish one as Travis Head took MI bowlers to the cleaners. They were desperate for a wicket and that desperation was palpable when they splurged a review on what was a review worth not wasting on.

Gerald Coetzee bowling his first ball of the match attempted a slower ball as it was wide and above the waist height of Abhishek Sharma. Hardik Pandya was quick to consult the umpire and did not waste any time reviewing it. The replays showed the ball was well above the waist height and was adjudged as a no-ball. Mumbai lost their one of two reviews in a span of five overs.

Travis Head charges MI bowlers amidst jampacked Hyderabad crowd

Travis Head was on song against the pace-filled MI bowling arsenal. He took one ball at a time and dispatched it over the boundary time and again. He was ruthless against the debutant Kwena Maphaka, as he fetched 21 runs from five balls he played against him in the very first over of his IPL career. He later went on to complete his fifty in just 18 balls, this was the second-fastest half-century for any batter in the SRH pantheon.

Brian Lara in his pitch report emphasised that the deck is a batting pitch and the team to win the toss will go with the bat first. But, MI captain Pandya had other plans as he opted to bat first and the move proved to be a disastrous one as SRH piled up 81 runs in the powerplay itself. Looking at MI’s batting lineup it would be unfair to count them out of the contention and SRH have to finish on high and deliver with the ball.
