Virat Kohli knows when to be aggressive and when to control the game: Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid heaped praises on 'hard-working' Virat Kohli in a recently released video by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on their website on Thursday (December 15). The Indian head coach talked about Kohli's appraoch to the game and said that Indian team benefits from how he builds up a game.

The 34-year-old batter is currently up in the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Chattogram. He scored just one run in the first innings on Wednesday but has been in fine form lately. Prior to the Tests, he smashed his 72nd international century during the final ODIs against Bangladesh. Dravid also highlighted Kohli's record in ODIs and said that he has an incredible template in the 50-over format.

"He (Virat) knows when to be aggressive and when to control the game, it's incredible to watch and a good sign for us if he can build up. Virat has an incredible template in 50-over cricket. His record speaks for itself. It's phenomenal the number of games he's played," Rahul Dravid said in the video.

Kohli ended his poor run of form during the 2022 Asia Cup and has been in incredible form since then. He was the leading run-scorer in the 2022 T20 World Cup with the help of four fifties from six innings and it looks like he has found his usual best again. Dravid revealed that the player is feeling good and has been training very hard lately. He also added that Kohli training so hard has been a 'standout' for him and is a great lesson for the youngsters in the current squad.

"He feels he's back and is training as hard as I have ever seen him. For me, that has been a stand out, watching him train this past year, that never changes irrespective of whether he is doing well or not and that is a great lesson for a lot of the young players in the group," Dravid added.

Despite Kohli's early dismissal, the Indian team managed to score 404 runs in their first innings in the ongoing Test. Shreyas Iyer, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravichandran Ashwin contributed with fifty-plus knocks while Kuldeep Yadav scored crucial 40 runs off 114 balls. The wrist spinner also shined with the ball by taking four wickets as Bangladesh struggled at 133/8 at the end of Day 2.
