WATCH: Mentor Kevin Pietersen talks about Delhi Capitals' mindset while preparing for games
"It’s not a case of doing something in practice and trying something completely different the next day,” Pietersen said.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently in a tough position at the business end of IPL 2025 as every game is crucial for them in order to make it to the playoffs. The preparations and plans of the franchise will be key going into this phase of the competition.
There will be a lot of talk around the tactics and plans of the Axar Patel-led side, which has been discussed by DC mentor and English cricketing legend Kevin Pietersen. The Englishman opened up on the mindset of the team competing. The 2010 T20 world champion revealed how his side will be ready for the playoff race, explaining the importance of practising smart before the games and what the key elements the players should focus on going into the upcoming matches.
“I think practice smart, practice very very smart, make sure that you don’t leave any stone unturned for a game that you’re going to play the next day. So all the games that we played, like really understand who you’re facing, and I’ll talk this from a batter’s perspective,” Pietersen spoke on JioHotstar.
"Who are you going to face? What is the bowler going to do? How’s the bowler going to look to get you out? What are your scoring options? Where are the smart places to go? How early do you go? And then practise in that manner, just make sure that what you do in the practice field, you can replicate in the middle, it’s not a case of doing something in practice and trying something completely different the next day,” the former DC skipper concluded.
