WI vs IND: 'Relieved' Virat Kohli breathes easy after smashing third boundary in 160 deliveries during 1st Test
India won the first Test by an innings and 141 runs where Kohli scored 76 runs.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli showed extreme determination with the bat against West Indies as the 34-year-old was aware of the slowness of the pitch in Dominica. He took a lot of time to settle in and hit his first boundary on the 41st ball. Even after so, the cricketer didn’t change his approach and played to the conditions.
Notably, he was spotted struggling at times as the pitch was tailor-made for the bowlers to succeed. Nevertheless, Kohli kept going and managed to hit his third boundary after 160 deliveries and that’s when he celebrated a bit with a sigh of relief as scoring runs got immensely difficult at one point.
The photo of the incident soon went viral on various social media platforms. Meanwhile, the cricketer was expected to hit the three-digit mark but he once again fell short. In the last couple of years, Kohli has struggled against red-ball and thus, against a relatively weak bowling attack of the West Indies, he was thought to finally hit a century but ended up scoring 76 runs. Rahkeem Cornwall, who was out with a chest infection for the majority of Day 2 made his return on Day 3 and almost immediately picked up the wicket of the legendary cricketer.
India take a 1-0 lead
The visitors posted 421 runs in the first innings and thus, it looked very difficult for the home team to make any sort of comeback in the second innings. Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin once again weaved magic in the middle as the cricketer picked up a brilliant seven-for to restrict West Indies to 130 runs. Ravindra Jadeja supported him well in the middle, picking up two wickets while pacer Mohammed Siraj picked up one as India won the match by an innings and 141 runs.
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal was handed the Player of the Match award for his heroics with the bat. The youngster hit 171 runs and became one of the rare cricketers to hit a century on debut.
