South Africa vs Zimbabwe 2018: 2nd ODI – Statistical Highlights
All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the low scoring affair between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
South Africa escaped a scare of losing to Zimbabwe in the Bloemfontein ODI where they were reduced to 101/7 after electing to bat first. On a pitch with uneven bounce, Dale Steyn scored his maiden ODI fifty on his return to the limited-overs after two years. His 60-run knock helped the home team to finish on 198. Steyn bagged the first two wickets of the Zimbabwe innings while the leg-spinner Imran Tahir ran through the visiting line with a six-wicket haul that included a hat-trick. The lower ranked team collapsed from 43/2 to 78/10 and lost the game by a huge 120-run margin.

1 – Imran Tahir became the first South African and only the 13th player overall to bag two six-wicket hauls in ODI cricket. Tahir took 7/45 during a Tri-Series game against the Windies in 2016.
4 – Imran Tahir became only the 4th player to take a hat-trick in the ODI format for South Africa. Charles Langeveldt in 2005 took the first ODI hat-trick for South Africa while JP Duminy and Kagiso Rabada claimed one each in 2015.
6/24 – Imran Tahir’s 6/24 is the first ever 6-wicket haul in an ODI by a spinner in South Africa. Three spinners took an ODI five-fer in South Africa but no one managed to take a six-fer before Tahir.
6/24 – Imran Tahir’s figures of 6/24 are second best bowling figures by a South African in the ODI format at home. Makhaya Ntini claimed 6/22 against Australia in the 2006 Cape Town ODI.
10 – Dale Steyn is only the 10th player to score a fifty while batting at No.9 or lower position and claim multiple wickets while opening the bowling in the same ODI. The last such player was Ravi Rampaul in the 2011 Vizag ODI against India.
60 – Dale Steyn’s 60 in this game is the highest individual score for a South African while batting at No.9 and a lower position in an ODI. The previous highest was Andrew Hall’s unbeaten 56 against India in the 2006 Cape Town game.
78 – Zimbabwe’s total of 78 in this game is their lowest ODI total against South Africa worsening the total of 117 they posted in the first ODI.
101 – South Africa lost their 7th wicket at 101 in this game. This is the second lowest score in an ODI at which they lost their 7th wicket and ended up winning the game. They were reduced to 98/7 by England in the 1996 East London ODI.
198 – South Africa’s total of 198 is their second lowest total in the 50-over format against Zimbabwe. Their lowest against Zimbabwe was 185 in the 1999 World Cup game while chasing 234 to win.
