Cricketers have often played football, as a part of their pre-match warm-up to help them improve their endurance and agility. Ahead of the Ashes Premier League legends tried their hand at cricket. Steven Gerrard, Gary Lineker, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Alan Shearer had a go with the bat and ball. Chelsea legend Lampard has been spotted hanging out with his cricketer friend Andrew Flintoff.

Manchester United’s Paul Scholes has also been an ardent fan of the game, while his time at Old Trafford. In the video uploaded by ESPNCricinfo, we see Newcastle United’s legend Alan Shearer opening the batting. Up front, the right-hander faces chin-music as the ball from Lampard went past the batsman. Lampard followed it up with a half-volley which was crashed on the off-side by the batsman. However, Lampard served revenge in the very next delivery when he delivered a toe-crushing Yorker to dismiss the right-hander.

Scholes flicks it off his leg

United’s Scholes picked it off from Shearer knocking the first one off the legs for a boundary. However, the next delivery from Gerrard was one of a shocker. The Liverpool Legend delivered a ball outside off to find the edge of the right-hander. The very next delivery, the right-hander drove one on the off-side reminiscent of the ones played by the cricketers. Lampard, who went next missed the ball outside the off to leave the keeper Rio Ferdinand shocked.

The Chelsea legend almost took out the camera on the very next delivery when he struck the ball sweetly on the off-side. Scholes then bowled a yorker, which once again resulted in a wicket. Gerrard, began his innings with a class drive on the off-side, before signalling boundary to the cameras he also played a defensive shot, which caught them all by surprise.

The Liverpool legend finished the innings, with a flick on the leg-side which went high for a six. It is surprisingly pleasant to see the footballers play cricket, the way the cricketers play football.
