India Test opener Prithvi Shaw made his much-awaited return to competitive cricket through the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The highly-rated youngster had suffered an unfortunate injury before the start of the Test series against Australia which ended his hopes of further enhance his reputation. Shaw had injured his ankle while fielding near the boundary ropes in the warm-up game against Cricket Australia.

The team-management then decided to keep him with the rest of the squad, hoping that the youngster would recover during the course of the series. However, Shaw was ruled out of the entire series after the second Test with Mayank Agarwal being named his replacement. Shaw then underwent rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy before clearing the yo-yo test which convinced the Mumbai selectors to pick him up in the squad for the T20 competition.

However, Shaw failed to hit the ground running after returning from the lengthy injury layoff. He clearly struggled to get going in the three games and failed to get going. In his first competitive game after injury, he managed to score just 10 against Sikkim. He then scored 8 and 0 in the following games against Punjab and Madhya Pradesh respectively. However, the right-handed batsman roared back to form against Goa on Monday, helping Mumbai win the clash by 6 wickets.

Shaw blows Goa away

With Shaw desperate to find his mojo back after returning from the injury spell, it was Goa who faced his wrath. The 19-year-old  slammed a match-winning whirlwind fifty to blow the opposition away in the Group C game of the tournament in Indore. He scored 71 off just 47 as Mumbai chased down 141 without breaking much sweat.

Shaw’s knock was studded with five boundaries and seven sixes. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (31) played second fiddle to Shaw as the duo added 95 runs for the first wicket. Mumbai lost three wickets in quick succession to find themselves 4 down for 117 before Surya Kumar Yadav (24 not out) steered the side home.
