T20 Blast 2018, Day 33: Round-up

We are just a few games away from the quarterfinals in the Vitality T20 Blast. After each of the team plays its 14 league games, the top four teams from each group will be facing off in the quarterfinals. The race for these top four spots is getting intense day by day. On the 33rd day of action, one game from each of the group was played. Lancashire ended their league stage with a loss. They have 17 points at the end of their 14 games and are third on the points table at the moment. However, despite the loss, they have qualified for the quarterfinals. Apart from them, it would be Durham and Worcestershire from the North group who will be a part of the knockout stage. The battle for the fourth spot in the group seems to be quite interesting. In the South group, Somerset is already through. Here is how things progressed on the 33rd day of the T20 Blast. Surrey vs Hampshire – South Group Although they won the toss and opted to bat first, Hampshire failed to put up a good score on the board. Sam Northeast, with 37 runs off 36 balls, was the highest run scorer in the innings. However, none of the other batsmen got amongst the runs as Hampshire only managed to put up 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Having assessed the pitch during the first innings, Aaron Finch applied himself beautifully. He respected the good balls and didn’t take many risks. He remained unbeaten on 67 off 57 balls as his side won the game by 7 wickets with more than two overs to spare. Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked two wickets in the innings. Brief Scores: Hampshire: 133/7 in 20 overs (Sam Northeast 37, Rossouw 23, Jade Dernbach 2/19) Surrey: 136/3 in 17.3 overs (Aaron Finch 67*, Maddinson 41, Mujeeb Ur Rahman 2/31) Result: Surrey won by 7 wickets Warwickshire vs Lancashire – North Group Just like Hampshire, Lancashire also won the toss and elected to bat, only to fail terribly. Except for Danny Lamb, no other batsman managed to cross an individual score of at least 15 runs. They were bundled out for just 102 runs in 19 overs. O Hannon-Dalby picked 4 wickets was the best bowler as he returned with the figures of 4/20. It was quite an easy chase for Warwickshire. Their openers Ian Bell and Ed Pollock scored 34 and 36 runs respectively as they put up an opening stand of 68 runs. Warwickshire chased the target down in 14.1 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. Matthew Parkinson picked two wickets.
