Team India will be going through a gruelling but favourable 23 international matches at home between September and December. It will include a home series against Sri Lanka and two new venues are in the fight to host the Test matches. Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Barsapara in Assam are the two new places and the decision will be taken by BCCI’s tour and fixtures committee in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The schedule:

India will play five ODIs and three T20 Internationals against Australia from September end to mid of October said a BCCI office bearer. After the Australia chapter, India will take on the Kiwis in three ODIs and 3 T20 internationals. The series will start late in October and stretch till November.

India will end their record home season in December when they complete 3 ODIs, 3 Tests and 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka.

“There are a whopping 23 International matches at home. Three Tests, 11 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals. Each and every venue in India will be covered. Barsapara in Assam and Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram have got Test status. Both are vying for Test matches. Most of the bigger centres want either a T20 International or ODIs,” a BCCI official told PTI today.

Confirming the development, a Kerala Cricket Association official said that the Kochi Nehru Stadium will be unavailable because of the U-17 FIFA World Cup that will run at that time.

“Since Kochi’s Nehru Stadium, which has traditionally hosted ODIs, will be used for the Fifa U-17 World Cup, we are hoping that Greenfields gets its first Test,” he said.

Nagpur may also get a Test match though the venue was under suspension. The most popular and big venues in the name of Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Mohali will host One Day Internationals and T20 internationals because they will attract a gigantic number of audiences.

“One can be rest assured that at least 16-18 venues will be covered during this phase,” he concluded.
