Top 10 players (current) to score most ducks in ODI career: There are only 3 surefire ways to get famous in ODI cricket. Get 100s and loads of them, get wickets and a bucketful of them or the more infamous way, get lots of ducks. If a player has had a long career, he is bound to collect some ducks on the way and that collection sometimes amount to a handful. Here are the top 10 duck gatherers of ODI history, given most of them are bowlers who don’t get much chance to bat, but some of them have serious batting chops in them. 10. 15 – Kumar Sangakkara (Asia/ICC/Sri Lanka 2000-2015) Mts: 401 Kumar Sangakkara has 15 ducks in his career.(Photo Source: Associated Press) The Sri Lankan superstar has had a long ODI career which will culminate after the 2015 World Cup and he has gathered 15 ducks so far in his career. Sangakkara debuted in 2000 to replace Romesh Kaluwitarana in the Sri Lankan set up. And he did impress the selectors and fans with his spotless keeping and superbly elegant batting. Sangakkara gave up the gloves in Test cricket to Prasanna Jayawardene, but continues to keep in the shorter formats. Sangakkara also captained the Sri Lankan team to the 2011 World Cup final. 9. 15 – Zaheer Khan (Asia/India 2000-2012) Mts: 200 Zaheer Khan has 15 ducks in his career.(Photo Source: AFP) Currently out of favor Indian pacer Zaheer Khan has collected 15 ducks in his 200 matches. Zaheer is more famous for his wily left arm pace bowling and his fours sixes off four balls to Henry Olonga in 2001. Zaheer Khan showed the crowd that he could bat and he could hold his own against any bowler pace or spin. That is evident from his highest score in Test 75. 8. 18 – Yuvraj Singh (Asia/India 2000-2013) Mts: 293 Yuvraj has 18 ducks in his career.(Photo Source: ICC) Man of tournament of 2011 World Cup Yuvraj Singh has collected 18 ducks in his 293 matches so far. Currently out of form and out of favor, Yuvraj couldn’t make the cut for the 15 man squad to the World Cup. A powerful yet effortless left-handed batsman and more than a capable left arm spinner who could bowl 10 overs regularly in the ODI setup. Not quite the fielder he used to be in his youth, Yuvraj still has the ability to make that wonderful stop or take those unbelievable catches. 7. 18 – Brendon McCullum (New Zealand 2002-2015) Mts: 244 Brendon McCullum has 18 ducks in his career.(Photo Source: Getty Images) Current Kiwi Captain and the hottest batsman in the ongoing 2015 World Cup, Brendon McCullum has 18 ducks in his 244 matches so far. Since he plays a high risk game in the start of the innings, it is given that he may get out early, but when he gets going, it is just a site to see 150 kmph balls sailing over the point and cover boundaries. McCullum has redefined the opening batting once more. A susceptible and nervous starter Younis has been out for ducks a couple of times in series. Younis debuted in 2000 and has been a very integral part of the Pakistan team. He has also captained Pakistan to the World T20 championship in 2010. He recently made a comeback into the ODI team on basis of runs scoring in the Test series against New Zealand. 5. 22 – Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka 2004-2015) Mts: 181 Lasith Malinga has 22 ducks in his career. Known more for his bowling rather than his batting, Malinga still has a 50 to his name in ODI cricket. He once helped Thisara Perera win a match from an impossible position against Australia. 4. 23 – Chris Gayle (ICC/West Indies 1999-2015)Mts: 267 Chris Gayle has 23 ducks in his career. Due to indifferent form and struggles with the West Indian cricket board, he has been not in any flow of batting. An elegant player of both fast bowler and spinner, Jayawardene has amasses 12625 runs in 445 matches. He made his debut in 1998 and has already announced retirement form all forms of the game after the World Cup. 1. 30- Shahid Afridi (Asia/ICC/Pakistan 1996-2015)Mts: 394 Shahid Afridi has 447 sixes in Intl. Primarily debuting in 1996 as a batsman who could bowl, Afridi hit the then fastest hundred in 37 balls against Sri Lanka. Currently he has played 394 matches and has taken more than 400 wickets in the ODI format. His batting has declined very much in recent times and he has become a more of a miss and hit batsman and that has added to his duck gathering.
