Former South African skipper Graeme Smith made his 3000 runs as captain in his 83rd inning. Smith was an opener with quite an unorthodox grip and technique with very strong leg side play and good off side play square of the wicket. He got the captaincy from Shaun Pollock whow as sacked after the 2003 World Cup group stage exit. Smith was only 22 at that time and turned out to be one of the most respected and inspiring leaders for the Proteas team.
