Mushfiqur Rahim has been a fulcrum of the Bangladesh team ever since he was a teenager. He didn’t quite taste much success as a captain, however, his credentials with the willow aren’t worth doubting by any stretch of the imaginations. He made his ODI debut back in 2006 and hasn’t looked back ever since having scored nearly 10,000 runs at the international circuit.

Bangladesh are currently playing the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Bogra-born cricketer has been deemed to play a crucial part in the tournament. Their first match of the event against Sri Lanka at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in currently underway and the wicketkeeper-batsman has well and truly come to the party for the Tigers.

Mushfiqur put his head down to a stupendous ton

After Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat first, Bangladesh lost a couple of early wickets in the form of Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan, both of whom were nipped out by Lasith Malinga, who made his international comeback after a gap of more than a year. Thereafter, Tamim Iqbal walked off after being hit on the wrist and Rahim had a massive task ahead of him.

He buckled down to build a partnership with Mohammad Mithun, who scored a half-century before being foxed by a slower delivery from Malinga. Their stand fetched 131 runs off 141 deliveries after which Bangladesh lost wickets at pretty quick succession. From 134/2 in 25.3 overs, the team lost six wickets for 69 runs in a space of 103 balls.

When he was on 97, Bangladesh lost their penultimate wicket and Mustafizur Rahman was the last man in. In the fourth ball of the 44th over, Mustafizur took a single after which Mushfiqur glided the ball past the wicketkeeper’s gloves to bring up his sixth ton, donning the national colours. Quite expectantly, Twitter hailed the right-hander for his stupendous knock.
