Twitter Reactions: Clinical Stars breeze past the Sydney Thunder at the Carrara Oval

It was one of the best days at the office for the Melbourne Stars as they easily brushed aside the Sydney Thunder in the 20th match of the Big Bash League (BBL). The trend of one-sided games and low scores continued in the tournament as the visitors didn’t show any intent to fight after posting a fighting total on a tough pitch. Their bowlers didn’t use enough cutters to keep the batsmen on their toes and eventually lost the game in the 18th over. The Thunder won an all-important toss and opted to bat first. Scott Boland though didn’t let them off the hook by picking important wickets of Jos Buttler and Callum Ferguson in the fourth over of the innings. Even Shane Watson struggled on the slow pitch and was undone by Adam Zampa while Joe Root played a decent knock of 26 runs off 28 balls. At 71/5, things looked down and out for the Thunder. But Daniel Sams finally found some form with the bat as he smashed 42 off just 25 balls to propel the team to 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets after 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis continued to bowl well in this game as well while Boland also returned with exceptional figures. Top-order does the job for the Stars The target was tricky for the Stars. But they were extremely clinical with the bat which didn’t give any chance to the opposition to come back. Ben Dunk fell early to Sams but then Stoinis joined hands with Nick Larkin to get them off to a great start. They added 36 runs and just when the Aussie all-rounder was flourishing in his innings, Fawad Ahmed got better of him on 34 to make it 57/2. The Thunder were still hopeful of pulling off a victory at this stage. However, Glenn Maxwell blew them away with a magnificent rearguard action. He and Larkin put up an unbeaten stand of 80 runs in just over 10 overs as both of them remained not-out on 41. The game finished in the 18th over and the win also propelled them to the second position in the points table with the Thunder staying at the fifth place.
