‘Home Track Bully’ - Twitter reacts as Shubman Gill’s early dismissal adds to India’s worry in WTC 2023 final
Shubman Gill was sent packing by Scott Boland for just 13 runs.
The Day 2 of the ICC World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 saw Australia notch up 469 runs on the board after the first innings of the match. Steve Smith and Travis Head were the stars of the game for the team so far. Smith scored 121 runs, whereas Head accumulated 163 runs to his name and helped Australia to a huge total in the first innings.
As the Indian team came in to bat following Australia’s brilliance with the bat in the first innings, the side got off to the worst of starts as skipper Rohit Sharma was sent packing quite early into the innings. Rohit started the innings off with confidence, but he was sent back to the pavilion for just 15 runs before he was dismissed by Pat Cummins.
However, as the responsibility fell on star batter Shubman Gill’s shoulders, the 23-year-old also failed to make an impact as he was dismissed after a brilliant delivery by Scott Boland. Gill decided to leave the delivery, however, the ball angled back in as it struck the off stump.
Gill was left unsure whether to play the ball or leave it, and his eventual decision led to his doom. The 23-year-old was dismissed for just 13 runs in 15 deliveries. Many had big expectations from Gill in the WTC final, considering that he has been in sensational form as of late.
It is also worth noting that Gill was also the highest run-getter of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, having scored 890 runs in 17 matches in the tournament. However, the 23-year-old disappointed with his performance in the first innings.
Following an excellent performance with the bat in the first innings, the Aussies seem to have followed it up with a sensational performance with the ball as well. The two early wickets of the Indian openers would do wonders for the Pat Cummins-led side, and they would look to further build upon it as the day progressed.
