Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine has been wreaking havoc with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The southpaw continued his marvellous form against Rajasthan Royals during Match 31 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday, April 16 as he brought up his maiden IPL hundred off just 49 balls.

Narine started the innings in an uncharacteristic fashion scoring run a ball on his first 12 deliveries. He finally broke free in the last over of the powerplay clobbering Kuldeep Sen for back-to-back maximum and a boundary to end the powerplay on a high. The boundaries helped Narine get into the groove as the swashbuckling batter raced to his half-century off just 29 balls by whacking Ravichandran Ashwin over his head for a maximum.

The home crowd got their money’s worth with Narine’s carnage bringing them on the edge of their seats as their jubilant roars swept over the entire stadium. The southpaw got involved in a crucial 85-run stand off just 43 balls with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30 off 18) for the second wicket.

Narine further took on Ashwin in his third over smoking him for a six followed by a couple of boundaries as the off-spinner tried every trick up his sleeve to stop the onslaught but to no avail. Batting on 79, the 35-year-old even didn’t spare the purple cap holder of the season, Yuzvendra Chahal, in his last over and targeted the straight boundaries smashing him for 6, 4, 6, 4 to bring up his hundred.

KKR post 223/6 in first innings

Narine’s sensational knock was brought to an end by Trent Boult who shattered his stumps in the 18th over to dismiss him for 109 off 56 balls. The southpaw became the third KKR batter to score a hundred as he smashed 13 fours and six sixes in his innings.
