The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have registered a hat-trick of victories and are the only team to not lose a game so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Once again experience came to the fore for the defending champions against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they won the game by eight runs. They were put in trouble a lot of times by the Men in Pink, but the likes of MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo were too good in both the innings respectively in the end.

The chase for the Royals began horrendously as their skipper Ajinkya Rahane got out of in the very first over for a duck itself. Soon Jos Buttler and the last match’s centurion Sanju Samson followed him in the dressing room. At 14/3, things looked extremely grim as the CSK were keen on taking the momentum home. Rahul Tripathi took the pressure off Steve Smith by playing his shots.

His knock of 39 runs off 24 balls kept the Royals in the hunt. However, his wicket slowed down the proceedings drastically thanks to Imran Tahir’s exceptional spell. He returned with 2/23 to pull the game in the CSK’s favour. But with a lot of dew, the Royals were still hopeful of getting the runs and they got closer with some amazing hitting from Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer.

They attacked Shardul Thakur to bring the equation down to 12 off the last over. It was a brilliant effort from the duo as they needed 56 from the last four overs. However, Dwayne Bravo was too good for the visiting side in the last over. He snaffled Stokes off the very first delivery to kill the chase and then completed the formalities rather easily as CSK clinched victory by eight runs.

Thala lights up Chennai

Earlier in the day, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also got off to a similar start like their opponents. Ambati Rayudu’s poor season continued even as Shane Watson couldn’t get going after taking his time early on. Even Kedar Jadhav was dismissed by the fifth over and the home team was in deep trouble at 27/3 at one stage. But then, they had the calm and cool-headed MS Dhoni.

He kept his cool and rotated the strike to stitch a 61-run partnership with Suresh Raina first and then took the control of the proceedings smartly. He also had Dwayne Bravo coming and playing a bright cameo of 27 runs off 16 balls which gave CSK the much-needed momentum. MS Dhoni had reached his half-century by then and Jaydev Unadkat came in his firing line in the final over.

The veteran smacked him for three sensational sixes in the last three deliveries and that propelled the Men in Yellow to a more than competitive total of 175 runs for the loss of five wickets after 20 overs. The score was enough in the end as the master of finisher had calculated it perfectly.
