The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League has not been very fruitful for the defending champions Mumbai Indians thus far. They have lost four matches in the season already, and hence, another couple of defeats will pretty much put their stakes of qualifying for the playoffs under serious threat. Needless to concede, the Men in Blue have to treat every game as a must win game from now on.

With this backdrop, the Rohit Sharma-led side hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai. The visitors also arrived in to the clash after a couple of defeats in their previous games. Prior to these defeats, they had won three matches in a row. Certainly, the match was set to be a cracker of a contest. But as the things stand at the half way stage, one would believe that the Mumbai Indians have the upper hand in the game.

They have managed to restrict the Sunrisers to a below par total. Having said that, one cannot rule out the fact that SRH have always depended on their bowlers for success. Talking about the first innings of the match, the home skipper won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mitch McClenaghan gave a brilliant start to the hosts by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha in the second over of the innings.

A couple of overs later, Hardik Pandya struck big with the wicket of Manish Pandey (16). To make things worse for the visitors, Shakib Al Hasan was run out cheaply in the next over. SRH lost their four key wickets in the powerplay. All hopes relied on Kane Williamson, who played decently for his 21-ball 29. He became the second victim of Hardik Pandya in the match. Mohammad Nabi chipped in with a very good looking 14 too, but perished after the decent start.

Yusuf Pathan tried to hang on till the end but perished in the penultimate over on 29 (33). His dismissal saw the SRH innings fold out on just 118 in 18.4 overs. For the hosts, McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya, and Mayank Markande took two wickets each.
