The Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their third win in the season in as many number of matches. After having won their first two games at home, they arrived in Kolkata to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their first away game of the edition. They came up with a thorough performance on the night in all the three departments of the game. After having restricted the opposition to a modest score of 138, they chased it down with an over to spare and five wickets in hand.

Earlier in the match, Kane Williamson won the toss for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and opted to bowl first. He very well knew that the trend of the season had been chasing and hence, went ahead with the option. The move worked well for them. On the contrary, KKR’s move to open with Robin Uthappa instead of Sunil Narine backfired big time. Neither did Robin score as an opener, nor did Narine play well in the middle order.

Also, the SRH bowlers kept hunting at regular intervals to keep the KKR camp at the bay throughout the innings. Chris Lynn, who had opened along with Uthappa, showed brief resilience and played well for his 34-ball 49. However, he perished at a very wrong time when the team needed him to accelerate. The KKR innings never really took off on the day.

Riding on Lynn’s numbers and some final blows from skipper Dinesh Karthik, the hosts posted 138 on the board. While the SRH bowlers ruled the roost, their fielders were the talking point on the day. Shakib took a brilliant return catch of his own bowling to dismiss Lynn, Manish Pandey took two scorchers in the field, and Kane Williamson took a good running catch too.

In the run chase, Sunrisers got off to a flying start riding on Wriddhiman Saha’s 15-ball 24. The Knight Riders then got back into the game with Sunil Narine’s double strike that removed both the SRH openers. The wicket of Manish Pandey fell soon after. Kane Williamson (50) and Shakib Al Hasan (27) took the game closer to the target but their dismissals in quick succession brought KKR back in the game.

But Yusuf Pathan and Deepak Hooda did not let the panic button hit the SRH camp this time around. Yusuf, in particular, was calm as a cucumber to finish things off in style with a six. SRH won the game by 5 wickets and with the win, they extended their winning run to three matches this season.
