February 14 is usually celebrated all over the world as the day of love or Valentine’s Day, however, it turned out to be a black day for India as a terrorist attack in the Awantipora area in Pulwama district of Srinagar caused 40 CRPF jawans attaining martyrdom.

The incident happened in the afternoon as a 70-vehicle convoy of CRPF was attacked using an explosive-laden SUV, which was rammed into one of the buses causing an explosion. The SUV was driven by a Jaish-e-Mohammad operative and the terrorist outfit has taken responsibility for the same. The event has been condemned by everyone all over the globe by politicians, celebrities and foreign dignitaries.

However, Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Congress leader, who recently visited Pakistan during the swearing-in ceremony of Pakistani PM Imran Khan, decided to give a statement which basically defended Pakistan. Sidhu said that one cannot blame the whole country (Pakistan) for the act, as it was committed by an individual from an organization. He further called the act cowardly and condemned it.

Can you blame a country?

“For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual? It (the attack) is a cowardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished,” Sidhu was quoted as saying.

Sidhu also said that people who carried out this act should be punished severely. However, in his statement, Navjot Singh Sidhu tried to divert the blame from Pakistan and tried to put the blame on individuals. The timing of this statement isn’t correct at all and the former cricketer is facing the flak over the same.

Sidhu’s comments have not gone down well with the netizens and people have started calling for the boycott of the Kapil Sharma Show, on which Sidhu appears as a special guest. Hashtag #BoycottKapilSharmaShow started trending on Twitter. Sidhu has been associated with the comedy talk show hosted by comedian-actor Kapil Sharma since the beginning and rejoined it when the show came back from a one-year hiatus.
