Umpiring howler in County Championship leaves Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone and others in disbelief

A shocking umpiring howler during the County Division 1 game between Kent and Hampshire has left the English cricket fraternity in disbelief. Kent batter Jordan Cox became a victim of this unbelievable error on the final afternoon of the fixture played at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. The right-handed batter was adjudged caught despite the ball missing his bat by a fair distance. It was the 80th over of Kent’s second innings and Cox was playing on 64. Off-spinner Felix Organ bowled a full-length delivery outside the off-stump which Cox tackled with his front foot. The ball deflected off his pads and short-leg fielder Joe Weatherley took an easy catch. Several prominent members of the cricket fraternity also presented their opinions on social media. “What…….how Nope,” tweeted veteran all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was in absolute shock and disbelief over the decision. Graeme Swann, Liam Livingstone and Sam Billings are among the other renowned names to have reacted to the viral video. Meanwhile, this dismissal also triggered the debate of induction of the Decision Review System (DRS) in County matches as well. Coming to the proceedings of the contest, Hampshire dominated the game and won by an innings and 51 runs. Kent, while batting first, posted 305 thanks to a brilliant 149 from number-three batter Daniel Bell-Drummond. In reply, Hampshire made an absolute mockery of Kent bowlers and declared their innings at 652/6, earning a lead of 347 runs. Skipper James Vince, Liam Dawson and Ben Brown were Hampshire’s three centurions with Dawson being the highest run-scorer in the game for his 268-ball 171. Kent did show substantial fight in their second innings but were eventually bundled out for 296.
