The Indian Premier League has been a major source for BCCI in finding the right, and potential players for the Indian team. Several big names of the Indian team were called up for their international debuts based on their performance at the IPL, and this year will be no less. Be it youngsters from the domestic belt or players from the international stars’ list, everyone looks forward to the IPL and making a name in the league.

Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are some players, to name a few, who’ve made their way into the Indian team after showcasing a class performance in the IPL. One such player, who aims at making it big at the 15th edition of IPL, is Karan Sharma who was picked by the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants.

Karan, the all-rounder at the LSG camp, in his recent interview with News18 mentioned that he idolizes Virat Kohli, and shared some similarities between him and Kohli, in terms of their batting style, and their mentality and thinking towards shot selection.

Virat Kohli is the greatest and I feel our batting is quite similar

“Yes he (Kohli) has been my idol and since the beginning, I always look up to him, he is the greatest and I feel our batting is quite similar, we don’t play in an unconventional way we always stick to our strength so I always look up to him how he approaches his innings and how he changes his gears with situations,” Karan said.

The 23-year-old had an amazing stint with the Uttar Pradesh team at the Ranji Trophy this season. In just his third first-class match, he led his team in the absence of Kuldeep Yadav and went on to score a century against Maharashtra. Hitting seven sixes in the game, he scored 116 runs for his team, leading them to a massive victory.

Talking about his stint ahead of the IPL 2022, and playing alongside several international stars, he said: “Yes, there are lots of international stars in our team. But I’m most excited to play with our captain KL Rahul. His journey has been amazing, I love his approach towards the game.” Meanwhile, Lucknow will play their first game against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, March 28.
