Watch: Dale Steyn playing street football with kids in Bangladesh: Which is the most frustrating sight in the game of cricket for players as well as fans? The answer is no rocket science. It is rain which plays the biggest spoil sport in dampening the spirit of even the most thrilling encounters in the game. Similar scenes got replicated on the fourth day of the 1st test match between Bangladesh and South Africa at Chittagong, when rain gods washed away the days play; much to the players disappointment. But, when it comes to Dale Steyn, there is nothing like state of boredom as Steyn gun always finds some way or the other to make the best use of his time.
Yesterday, when all the players were getting bored at their hotel rooms, the man with 399 test wickets spotted young kids playing football on the concrete lanes nearby a mosque from his hotel room. Steyn was a bit hesitant at that point as he was willing to go but was not sure. Then he posted about it on his Twitter account whether he should go to play street football with kids or not. He got an overwhelming response on the tweet and his fans insisted him to go.
And then it was something like never seen before. The Proteas pace spearhead was seen playing football with Bangladeshi kids barefooted in the rain. Though, we are familiar with sight of Dale Steyn beating the bat on numerous occasions but even on the concrete land and with the soccer ball, he was able to get it past the kids.
Later, he posted a video of the soccer game on his Instagram account. Steyn admitted that he might have broken every security protocol to go join in and the coach would not be happy about it but it was too good to resist. Although, technically Dale was not breaching any security protocol as he was well within the “safe zone”.
The 32-year old has been the butt of many trolls by the Bangladeshis. Prior to this tour, he had said that he wouldn’t be wasting his few deliveries left in a Bangladesh match. But after yesterday, Steyn has undoubtedly won millions of hearts in Bangladesh.
