Watch: Virat Kohli's masterclass sends back Shaun Marsh

Finally, the much awaited day arrived as Australia locked horns with the No.1 Test team in the world at Pune in the 1st of the 4 match Test series. Much before the series started, there was predictions made by former Indian players that it will be roller coaster ride for them and they will eventually go on to whitewash Australia 4-0. Steve Waugh and Steve Smith rubbished those talks saying everyone has their opinion and good luck to him. Both the former and the current captain said it will be a competitive series and it would be foolish from the Indians to take the visitors lightly and write them off. Smith won the toss and opted to bat and from the first few overs, it was clear that the pitch had a lot to offer to the spinners. Openers Matt Renshaw and David Warner began exceptionally well and struck some wonderful blows to get the Aussies going. Warner survived a close shave when he was bowled off a no ball of Jayant Yadav. His partner Matt Renshaw retired hurt due to stomach bug just 15 minutes before lunch and he was criticised by the former cricketers. Australia was going along nicely with captain Steve Smith and southpaw Shaun Marsh looking in complete control of proceedings but during the 47th over it was the master plan of Virat Kohli which helped Jayant Yadav and India to scalp the prized wicket. Yadav had bowled the first two deliveries of the over with just a traditional sleep but seeing Marsh’s approach Kohli employed the leg slip and took the position himself. Kohli made no mistake and completed an easy catch to reduce the visitors to 119/2 in the 47th over. Smith and Handscomb is currently in the middle with Australia looking to post a big total in their 1st innings as they know very well it will pretty difficult to bat in the 2nd innings.
