India A kick-started their tour of West Indies with a convincing 65-run win in the first of the 5-match unofficial ODI series. The strong batting line-up failed to get going on a slow track as the pace Akeem Jordan picked three wickets upfront while Roston Chase took 4-wicket haul. All the five bowlers in India A XI shared the ten wickets among themselves to bundle out the hosts for just 125 in defence of their 190-run total.

The tracks in the Caribbean will surely test the Indian batsmen who are aiming to seal the middle-order of the ODI team. The slow pitches will give them a challenge of scoring runs at a quick rate if needed and building the innings with patience in case of collapse. Shreyas Iyer did tick the second box during the first ODI by holding the innings with his 107-ball 77 from one end when his team kept losing wickets.

Match Details:

The 2nd game of the 5-match Unofficial ODI series between West India A and India A will be hosted by the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.

The match starts at 9:30 AM local time (1:30 PM GMT) (7:00 PM IST).

The game will be streamed live on Sony Liv in India and on the YouTube and Windes Cricket website outside India.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The pitch in Antigua might not be any different from the track found at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in the first ODI. This very venue hosted the ODI between India and Windies where the visitors failed to chase the target of 190. MS Dhoni crawled to a 114-ball 54 in the chase recording one of the slowest ever fifties in the 21st century.

Average first innings score: 202 (Last 5 List A matches)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 2, Lost – 3

Team News:

(Will be added when there is an update)

Power Picks:

Khaleel Ahmed has been found of 3-wicket hauls since his last appearance for the Indian national team. In 14 limited-overs matches in this space, the left-arm pacer bagged 3-fers in nine games. Khaleel finished with exactly three wickets in four of his five matches and took two wickets in another game where he didn’t complete his full quota.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Going by the first match performances, Roston Chase and Shreyas Iyer will be the most preferred multipliers. Manish Pandey’s exceptional record in unofficial ODIs and the success for Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad in List A cricket has to be considered for selecting captain and vice-captain. Rahul Chahar and Khaleel Ahmed can be worthy as vice-captain.

Other Captain/Vice-Captain Options – Rahkeem Cornwall, John Campbell, Hanuma Vihari, Rovman Powell.

Batsmen – Shryeas Iyer (C), John Campbell, Manish Pandey, Hanma Vihari, Jonathan Carter

Expert Advice:

Both India A and West Indies A did make interesting selections during the first ODI. India A didn’t pick Krunal Pandya for accommodating Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. West Indies A left out Sunil Ambris and Keemo Paul while Sherfane Rutherford wasn’t picked either. Waiting for the announcement of the playing XIs seems to be a better idea.

Probable Winners:

The first ODI did give a hint of how well India A will be dominating the hosts in all departments during the tour.
