The current India-West Indies series hasn’t exactly been an “eye candy” for the viewers. On the backdrop of a disappointing loss to Pakistan in the finals of the Champions Trophy, the Indian team flew to the Carribean to take on the island nation.West Indies, on the other hand, haven’t played much competitive cricket as of late, barring the lone series against Afghanistan.

The Indian team, to the surprise of many, are fielding a full-fledged team in the Carribean. Going against the usual practice of resting players before or after a huge tournament, Virat Kohli has decided to go all out in the West Indies. The team has looked steady so far.In the first match, batting first, the team was off to a sizeable total before being interrupted by rain preventing the match from restarting.

The second ODI once again saw the Men in Blue batting first in once again drought conditions with the match cut down to 43 overs per side. A century from Rahane and a solid performance by Dhawan and Kohli saw India to 310 at the end of 43 overs. The West Indies, for their part never really looked in the hunt going down by 105 runs in a lukewarm chase.

A special visit

The 5-day gap between the 2nd and 3rd ODI has allowed the players to kick back and take a chill pill after a long tour. “To each his own” and both the teams have been spending their time differently. The West Indies team took a trip to a nearby hospital where they surprised the inmates and gave a warm greeting to everyone present.

Trips like these help the fans to get to know their cricketing heroes on a more personal level by getting to interact with them directly. For the players, it is an opportunity to use their star power and give back to the community. All in all, it’s a win-win for everyone involved.
