Pakistan are currently involved in the ODI series against England and it was supposed to be the best practice for them ahead of the World Cup. But with injuries to key players, the preparation has been far from ideal for the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side. While Shadab Khan was diagnosed with the virus just before the tour, Mohammad Hafeez is still recovering from his thumb injury.

Hafeez was expected to return to the side for the third ODI which is to be played on Tuesday. But it will take more time it seems for him to recover and is not yet in a position to take the field. Shadab, on the other hand, went to see Dr Patrick Kennedy, world-renowned gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a special interest in liver disease in elite sportsmen, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

With just over two weeks to go for the mega event to get underway, the doubts are lingering whether these two players will be fit in time.

Inzamam confident of Shadab of returning

The chief selector of Pakistan team Inzamam-ul-Haq is confident that both Mohammad Hafeez and Shadab Khan getting fit just in time for the World Cup. The latter is expected to undergo more blood tests in Lahore now which will decide his fate but Inzamam was happy with his recovery. As for Hafeez, he added that the all-rounder will be in action soon for his team.

“We have received positive reports about the fitness of Shadab Khan and hope that he will be fit in time for the World Cup. Also, Hafeez will be in action soon, according to my reports,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign against Windies on May 31 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and will face the arch-rivals India on June 16 in Manchester.
