The third T20I between Bangladesh and Windies was surrounded by a major controversy. The play was halted nearly for eight minutes after the on-field umpire gave a wrong no-ball call which gave Liton Das another life. However, when the visitors actually picked the wicket of opener Tamim Iqbal, they didn’t even realise that until the verdict from the third umpire came out.

Chasing 191, the home team got off to a good start. Ten runs were scored off the first over of the innings. Following it up, another nine runs were added off the first three balls of the second over. Two no balls were bowled in the over till then. Later, a wide was also bowled making it ten runs of the over till that point in time. It was on the fourth ball of this over when the run out incident took place.

Some late celebrations from the Windies

Liton Das, who was on the strike nicely nudged the delivery from Oshane Thomas towards the deep square leg region. The ball beat Rovman Powell who was fielding in the ring. He gave it a good, hard chase and stopped the ball within touching distance from the boundary. Then, he followed it up with a nice acrobatic throw which was highly accurate.

Tamim Iqbal always had three on his mind and had no hesitations going back. He seemed to be confident that he made it to the other end in time. None of the Windies fielders was really excited. However, the third umpire was called for after a half-hearted appeal from the wicketkeeper.

To everyone’s surprise, Tamim was short of his crease and ‘out’ in capital letters flashed on the big screen. It was only then that the fielders began to celebrate. Skipper Carlos Brathwaite had to call everyone from their fielding positions to join the celebrations.
