Windies vs India: Brad Hogg backs Shubman Gill’s late inclusion in the visitors’ ODI squad

Shubman Gill has been plundering runs at will ever since the MSK Prasad-led selection panel ignored him in all the formats for the ongoing West Indies tour. He is part of the India A side and the team’s long Caribbean tour concluded on Friday with the third and final four-day game ending in a draw. Shubman Gill was the star of the tour for the visitors as he won the Man of the Series in the ODIs series and also went on to smash a double century in the final game of the tour. After bagging a golden duck in the first innings, Gill more than made up for it in India A’s second essay with the bat. With the team struggling at 49/4, he along with Hanuma Vihari bailed India out of the trouble with an unbeaten 315-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Shubman Gill scored a sensational unbeaten 204 off just 250 deliveries with 19 fours and two sixes to his name. The skipper Vihari, on the other hand, also scored a century and remained not-out on 118 runs and his innings was laced with 10 fours and one six. He felt that India should include him in the ODI squad straightaway and play him in the much-discussed middle-order position in the ongoing three-match series. Manish Pandey is also on the bench and it is looking like Gill will have to wait for his chance to come as far as the ODIs are concerned.
