5 Cricketers who played the game while continuing education

Playing any sports professional requires a lot of time. If we consider a student’s life, sports can take up a lot of time from their daily schedule. In that situation, it becomes pretty difficult for a student to continue his studies while also playing professional sports. There have been many cricketers who have admitted to leaving their education in the middle to pursue their career. It has obviously been beneficial for many successful sportspersons as it gives them more time to focus on those sports. However, there are some athletes who give education an equal amount of importance like their career in sports. Let us take a look at five cricketers who played the game while continuing education: 1. Riyan Parag Riyan Parag. (Photo Source: Twitter) IPL has been a stage where every year, a young player comes and showcases his talent. At the 2019 edition, it was Riyan Parag. After being a crucial member of the U-19 Indian squad which won the World cup in 2018, Parag got an IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals. Parag played seven matches last season and scored 160 runs at a strike rate of 127. In one of the matches, he scored 49 off just 31 balls in difficult run-chase against Kolkata to help his team to a win. He also picked up two wickets. Born in 2001, Parag is just 18 years old and would feature once again in the IPL 2020. He represented Assam in the Ranji season of 2019-20. He had even scored a century in the Ranji season. In an interview recently, he revealed that he appeared for his 12th Board examination after the Ranji trophy. He also said that he will continue his studies while also concentrating on cricket. 2. The side reached their first final and but unfortunately defeated by the hosts Australia. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t even lose a single match until the final. During the course of the tournament, India found a new champion batswoman. The 16-year-old Shafali Verma was in top form during the tournament. She ended up being the highest run-getter for the Indian side. It was quite unbelievable that at this tender age, she was able to take on the best bowlers in the world and hit them out of the park. However, in a recent interview, she revealed that apart from playing international cricket, also intends to continue her studies. She had said that she had to miss her class 10th examination due to an important U23 cricket tournament, but she intends to give the exam the upcoming year. 3. Amelia Kerr Amelia Kerr. She broke a 19-year-old record set by Belinda Clarke of Australia during her knock of 232 against Ireland in 2018. However, the all-rounder was always known as a child prodigy. She made her domestic cricket debut when she was 14 and later on went on to make her international debut at 16. She is the youngest to have represented New Zealand women’s cricket so far and she has been taking long strides at the highest level. She has been quite impressive with her leg-spin bowling, which is her main job in the side. But, it could be surprising for many that she is simultaneously pursuing a BA degree in education and sociology along with breaking world records. The all-rounder is expected to continue her degree even if the cricket schedule gets intense, she had been quoted once for saying that it brings balance to her life. 4. Ravichandran Ashwin Ravichandran Ashwin. (Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images) Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most skilful bowlers to have ever played the sport. He is the master of off-spin bowling and has been on top of his game since the time he has made his debut for India. But before Ashwin was confusing batsmen with his offies, he was an engineering student. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder made his first-class debut in 2006 at the age of 19. At the time, he was already pursuing his B.Tech degree from SSN College of Engineering. The pressure of playing regular cricket for his state team didn’t pressurize him to quit his studies. Being a true all-rounder, Ashwin continued and managed both. He finally graduated with a B. Tech degree in Information Technology. Finally, in 2010, Ashwin made his international debut and ever since he has been a key bowler for the India side. Having picked 564 wickets, the off-spinner has already made himself enter into the legends column of Indian cricket. 5. Prithvi Shaw Indian U19 skipper Prithvi Shaw. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Prithvi Shaw made a name for himself when he led the India U19 team to a world cup win in 2018. The Mumbai batsman then went on play the IPL and make his international debut as well. His record in first-class cricket has been so brilliant that the selectors had included the youngster into the Test side. But as he was representing and leading the Indian U19 team, Shaw had to miss his class 12th board examinations. In an interview, he had said that he would appear for the exams in the next year. He did as he planned and later joined a college as well. Later in 2018, he made his Test debut and scored a magnificent century in that match against West Indies. At 20, he has already played enough first-class cricket and seems quite ready for standing tall at the international level
