5 players who are irregular in ODI team but sealed World Cup berth
A few players made the cut to the showpiece event on the basis of their ODI experience despite not playing for the national team in the recent past.
5. Chris Morris – South Africa
The cricketer from Pretoria has the proficiency to win a match for his team with his all-around skills. Chris Morris made his debut in 2013, and so far he has played 34 ties for the Proteas. The all-rounder can provide the required balance in the side, and his presence can help the skipper to coin out new strategies. Along with his struggling form, injuries have also hampered his progress, and that is the reason why he has played only 9 out of 16 series after the 2015 World Cup.
Chris Morris was not part of the preliminary South African World Cup squad but the last minute injury to Anrich Nortje has forced the selectors to opt for him. He is one of the rare bowlers who can deliver with the new ball and as well as with the old one. Morris has picked up 35 wickets in his ODI career but in his last 10 games, he has remained wicketless 7 times which is a sign of worry. The Faf-led side can utilize him lower down the order, as their all-rounders lack experience of playing big events.
These individuals certainly have the talent to become match-winners but they never have lived up to their potential. In an event like the World Cup, teams prefer tested players but they will have to repay the faith shown on them.
