5 players who can break Brendon McCullum's record of the fastest Test century

Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum holds the record for scoring the fastest century in Test cricket. He reached the 100-run mark against Australia in only 54 balls in the last match of his Test career. With his incredible knock, he broke the previously held joint-record by Misbah ul Haq and Viv Richards. Both of these players had earlier hit tons in 56 balls each. Viv Richards achieved this feat against England in 1986. On the other hand, Misbah created this milestone versus Australia in 2014. Among the current generation, there are many players who play very aggressively even in Test cricket. These players are the contenders to break McCullum’s record of fastest Test century. In this article, we are going to list out 5 such cricketers, who can surpass Brendon McCullum’s tally: 1. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant. He has not changed his natural game in the longer format and can clear boundary ropes at ease. He also has the highest strike-rate among players of the current Indian team with a minimum of 1,000 runs. Pant can be seen as a serious contender to smash the fastest Test century. He already holds the Indian record for hitting the fastest hundred (32 balls) in T20 cricket. He had opened his account on Test debut with a six and had become the first Indian to do so. He has also shown his aggressive game in the limited-overs formats. Given his credentials, it may well be expected from Quinton de Kock to break McCullum’s record at some point of time in his career. 3. Ben Stokes Ben Stokes. He displayed his batting prowess at utmost level in that knock. Stokes holds the record for scoring the fastest 250 in Test cricket. He scored 258 runs off only 198 balls against South Africa in 2016. His innings included 30 fours and 11 sixes in total. These two innings are enough to prove the greatness of Ben Stokes in the longest format. The English all-rounder has hit 10 hundreds so far in Tests. Warner has hit over 7,000 runs in Tests at a strike rate of 72.7. Warner always looks to dominate the bowlers from the very first over while opening. This makes him a strong competitor in the race to break the fastest Test hundred record. 5. Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma. The dashing opener has three double hundreds to his name in ODIs. He also holds the record for scoring the fastest century in T20I cricket. He reached this milestone against South Africa in 2017 when he hit a ton off only 35 balls. Rohit hasn’t changed his natural game even in Test cricket and looks to score runs in whatever opportunity he gets. He can easily hit maximums which helps him in accelerating the scoring rate.
