5 players who don’t deserve to go to West Indies
A few of these players have blown hot and cold of late with their offbeat performances while a couple has played cricket to fatigue in the last 6 months.
We are less than a week away from India vs West Indies series which is going to start on August 3. The series will begin with T20I series comprising 3 matches and will sign off with a 2-match Test series, which ends on September 3. The tour will also involve an ODI series of 3 matches.
The squads of the respective formats which will travel to the Carribean lands to play against the Windies. The squads for all three formats were announced on Sunday. The announcement came as a surprise and shocking decisions aplenty. With MS Dhoni making himself unavailable and MSK Prasad gave clarifications about many unanswered queries. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli was also able to redeem himself to save his captaincy.
Some other shocking calls were the comeback of players like Manish Pandey & Shreyas Iyer in the White Ball setup. Kedar Jadhav, who is already 34, has also been granted another. Howbeit, some of these calls raised the eyebrows of pundits and fans of the whole world.
Here we will have a look at the players who didn’t deserve to be in the team:
1. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav‘s cricketing sojourn in the past few years has been no less than a roller-coaster ride. After scoring a match-winning 120 against England at Pune, in 2017. The 33-year-old right-handed batter was seen as the next middle-order great from India. He has been blowing hot and cold in the last 12 months but was successful in sharing the dressing room with the team.
Jadhav, who had amassed a total of 561 runs at an average of 40.07 in 2017, is now going totally downhill. The Pune-born has become an injury-prone player and could play only 11 matches in 2018, wherein, he was able to score only 87 runs. The figure has, somewhat, gotten better this year but Jadhav has still looked out of touch on several occasions, especially in death overs, as a finisher, which once used to be his forte. Even in the IPL, he could score just 162 runs at a minimum average of 18.
At the same time, Kedar is already 34 and is very unlikely to play the next World Cup in 2023. Hence, his selection is quite questionable if the management has to build a team for the long term.
