The IPL auctions often produce big surprises and unexpected moments and one such moment came during the auction for the 2019 season. Varun Chakravarthy had impressed in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). However, nobody would’ve expected him to fetch the biggest pay-cheque from the auctions.

But Chakravarthy exceeded all expectations as KXIP grabbed him for a stunning amount of INR 8.4 crores. Moreover, it was the bidding war that was as surprising as the amount. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started the bidding war before Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) joined in at INR 3.6 crores. Rajasthan Royals (RR) then came to the fore from INR 5 crores before backing out at INR 6.8 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) joined in before KXIP finally pouched the mystery spinner for INR 8.4 crores.

However, despite paying a hefty amount, Chakravarthy played just one game in the 2019 season. He bowled three overs and conceded 35 runs and picked up one wicket.
