Asia Cup 2018: Sourav Ganguly terms India as unbeatable in the event

India is the only team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 in the UAE to not have lost a single contest. Rohit Sharma and Co defeated Hong Kong and Pakistan in the Group phase without much fuss. In the Super 4 phase, the Men in Blue brushed aside Bangladesh followed by Pakistan in a couple of one-sided encounters at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

However, their previous encounter against Afghanistan turned out to be a roller coaster ride and India, eventually, had to be satisfied with a tie. They are now scheduled to lock horns with Bangladesh in the final today in Dubai. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, reckons India are unbeatable and Bangladesh will be in for a stern challenge.

Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan have batted exceptionally

He also said that Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan not playing against Afghanistan will keep them afresh for the final. “India have looked unbeatable in this competition. After a shaky start against Hong Kong, they have just got stronger and stronger and will not be easy to beat in the final.

Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan have batted exceptionally well and the break they got from not playing in the game against Afghanistan would have done them a world of good in these testing conditions,” Ganguly wrote in his column for The Times of India (TOI).

Rohit and Shikhar have been in imperious touch having notched 269 and 327 runs respectively. Moreover, they are also the leading run-scorers in the multi-nation tournament. Ganguly also mentioned that the Bangladeshi bowlers need to get rid of the opening pair in order to get the Indian team on the mat.

“For Bangladesh to remain in the contest, it will be important to control these two batsmen first before they look at others. Their exceptional form upfront means that the Indian middle-order has not come under much pressure, other than in the game against Afghanistan,” the 46-year-old added.
