India are currently playing the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) without the services of Virat Kohli, their regular skipper. Rohit Sharma is leading the team in his absence and has done a stupendous task thus far, having guided his team to the final against Bangladesh to be played tomorrow at Dubai International Cricket Stadium where India have played their previous four matches.

After winning the first three matches in the multi-nation event, India tied their last match against Asghar Afghan’s Afghanistan in Dubai itself. In the meantime, Shikhar Dhawan, the 32-year-old Indian opener, reckons that Virat’s absence doesn’t make a whole lot of difference to the national team. Dhawan also talked about his own form with the willow.

“Things don’t change for us because of the absence of Virat. We try to give in our best whenever and wherever we are playing. It feels nice to get some runs under the belt and every player wants to be as consistent as possible,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

There is no pressure of vice-captaincy on me

The Delhi-born left-hander is currently the leading run-scorer of the series with 327 runs four matches at an average of 81.75. Moreover, he boasts of a couple of tons against Hong Kong in the Group phase and then against Pakistan in the Super 4.

Dhawan is the vice-captain of the team for the ongoing 50-overs event. Talking about the same, he mentioned that he doesn’t want to pressurise himself with the role. Furthermore, he remarked that he won’t be altering his attacking style of play by any means.

“There is no pressure of vice-captaincy on me. All the pressure is on our captain (laughs), I am just enjoying my time as the vice-captain of the team. As far as my batting is concerned, it remains the same. I won’t change my game just because I have been made the vice-captain,” he added.
