Asia Cup: 3 best IND vs PAK matches in tournament history
India and Pakistan will meet each other on August 28 in Asia Cup 2022.
2. Asia Cup 2010
It was another late drama at Dambulla when the two teams played in the 2010 edition, but this match will always be remembered for the heated argument between Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar. Batting first, Pakistan posted a decent total of 267 runs after 49.3 overs. Salman Butt led the attack with 74 runs to his name while Kamran Akmal, towards the end, scored a quick 51 off 41 deliveries. Praveen Kumar was India’s best performer as he picked three wickets while Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh picked two each.
India lost Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli under 100 runs in their chase but Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni took control of the ship with a 98-run third-wicket partnership. The southpaw scored 83 off 97 while Dhoni scored 56 off 71 deliveries.
It was because of the slow start that India couldn’t capitalise early and the match almost went out of their hands. Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq kept India under enormous pressure in the middle overs, but just when the match was getting out of hand, Shoaib Akhtar’s comments ignited fire in Harbhajan Singh and he hit two sixesto seal the match with just one ball left.
