Sydney Thunder crashed out of the BBL 2020-21 following their 7-wicket defeat against Brisbane Heat on Sunday in the Knockout at the Manuka Oval. Thunder, who batted first, finished with 158/8 thanks to a 17-ball 34 by Ben Cutting towards the end. Heat lost both their openers inside three overs and were further three wickets down for only 70 runs in 12 overs.

Sam Heazlett, who was batting on 26 off 29 at this point with just one four, turned the tables with a flurry of boundaries and finished with an unbeaten 49-ball 74. Heazlett added 92 runs for the 4th wicket in only 7.1 overs along with Jimmy Pierson (43* off 24) to wrap up the chase with five balls to spare.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Brisbane Heat’s 7-wicket win during the THU vs HEA game:

Yet another win for Heat against Thunder:

10 – Brisbane Heat’s 7-wicket victory during THU vs HEA game was their 10th win against Sydney Thunder; the most for Brisbane in the BBL against any opponent. The Brisbane franchise lost only three of the 14 meetings in this league against Thunder while another fixture ended without a result.

A big stand to the rescue of Heat:

92* – The unbeaten 92-run stand between Sam Heazlett and Jimmy Pierson is now the 2nd highest 4th wicket stand for Brisbane Heat in the BBL. Their highest is 122 between Brendon McCullum and Matt Renshaw during the 2018-19 season against the Adelaide Strikers.

Lynn goes past Maxwell:

576 – Runs Chris Lynn has scored in the BBL against Sydney Thunder across 14 innings; the most number of runs by any player against an opponent in the Big Bash League history. Lynn went past Glenn Maxwell who scored 572 runs across 15 BBL games against Sydney Sixers.

Only one over for Bartlett:

1 – Xavier Bartlett became the first player to bowl a maiden in the first over of a BBL innings and not bowl another over. He is also only the 2nd player in BBL history to bowl only one over in a BBL innings which turned out to be a maiden.

Jonathan Cook, playing for Sydney Thunder, had analyses of 1-1-0-0 against Brisbane Heat in the 2018-19 season where the innings was halted after three overs due to floodlight failure.

2 – Xavier Bartlett also became the first player to bowl multiple maiden overs in his BBL career for the Brisbane Heat. Bartlett’s opening over on his BBL debut this season was a wicket maiden.

Sangha and Hales fall short of records:

21 – Tanveer Sangha ended BBL 2020-21 with 21 wickets after going wicketless in the Knockout game. Sangha’s 21 scalps are the joint-most by any spinner in a BBL edition alongside the 21 wickets by Steve O’Keefe in 2018-19. The 21 wickets by Sangha are also the 3rd most in a BBL edition for Sydney Thunder behind Daniel Sams’ record 31 wickets in 2019-20 and Chris Morris’ 22 wickets in the same edition.

543 – Runs Alex Hales aggregated during the BBL 2020-21 which are the 2nd most in a BBL edition for the Sydney Thunder behind his own tally of 576 runs across 17 games in the previous edition.

A rare stumping dismissal for Khawaja:

2 – Only the 2nd time Usman Khawaja got out stumped in his 57-match BBL career. The other such instance was during the 2011-12 season in only his 2nd appearance in the BBL (vs Strikers off Aaron O’Brien). Overall, this was also the first time in 50 T20 innings where Khawaja got dismissed stumped. The last instance was during the 2016 IPL in the bowling of Amit Mishra.
