He played his last international match almost two years ago. But former India captain Gautam Gambhir still has some monetary gains to make from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The latter has paid the cricketer a sum of Rs 1,04,24,507 as a share of gross revenue in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2014-15 for competitions played overseas. The 36-year-old player though has little chance of making a comeback to the national side.

Gambhir’s last appearance for India was in a Test match against England in Rajkot in November 2016 while his last ODI appearance was way back in 2013 and his last T20I game was in December 2012. Gambhir has scored 4,154 runs in 58 Tests at an average of 41.95 with nine hundreds; 5,238 runs in 147 ODIs at an average of 39.68 with 11 tons and 932 runs in 37 T20Is at a strike rate of 119 plus.

He was the member of the Indian teams that won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 and ICC World Cup in 2011. He was the highest scorer for India in the finals of both tournaments. Gambhir had not played for a long time before he got a recall to replace an injured KL Rahul in the first Test against New Zealand in September 2016.

He did not play the second Test in Kolkata and got a chance to play in Indore in place of an injured Shikhar Dhawan where he scored a fifty in the second innings. However, his comeback did not last long as he was dropped for the last three Tests against England at home.

India cricketers and coaching staff get their dues

His comeback lasted just two Tests as he was dropped from the team for the last three Tests against England. He managed 29 and 0 in his last Test in Rajkot. Gambhir, however, is still a force with the bat in domestic cricket. In the 2017-18 season, he hit 638 runs in Ranji Trophy to finish as the sixth highest scorer.

According to Timesnownews.com which reported about the BCCI paying Gambhir, the cricket board also paid former Indian captain and current coach of the junior teams Rahul Dravid Rs 40,50,000 as professional fee for the month of June. Test-specialist Cheteshwar Pujara was also paid Rs 27,00,000 as 10% retainership fee for the period between October 2017 and March 2018.
