Samuel Badree, the top-ranked T20 bowler in the world, personally dedicated West Indies’ World T20 victory to the ‘older generation’ of cricketers who bravely set the foundation for success over the past two decades of international cricket.

Badree was very instrumental in the team’s jubilant campaign in India where he took 8 wickets in 6 games including a wonderful 2/16 in the final against England in the finals.

The leg-spinner respectfully paid these tribute remarks at last night’s celebratory cocktail reception for both the male and female teams at the Hyatt Regency, Port of- Spain.

“For me personally, and I can’t speak for anybody else, I would like to dedicate this victory for the older generation,” said the ace leg-spinner.

“For the people who would have seen the West Indies during their time of dominance and gone through the tumultuous last two decades of consistent failures.

“At least, there is something that you guys can be happy about once more and smile about. Be rest assured that there is growth in West Indies cricket and there is something positive that West Indies cricket can give to you once more.”

The audience erupted in applause in response to Badree’s comments.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin, Evin Lewis, physiotherapist Ronald Rogers, Anisa Mohammed (Women’s leading T20 wicket-taker), former regional skipper Merissa Aguilleira, Stacy-Ann King, Ann Brown John (women’s manager), Donald La Guerre (mental conditioning coach) and Oba Gulston (physiotherapist) were also honored at the event.

Minister of Sport Darryl Smith, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Board Jocelyn Francois Opadeyi, chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation Terry Rondon among several executive members of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago along with family members of the celebrated cricketers were also at the event.
