CPL 2019: Player draft list for the tournament announced
The broadcast of the draft will be on the CPL social media platforms from 2 PM GMT.
The seventh edition of the Caribbean Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to get underway on September 4 and will continue until October 12. Last year, the Dwayne Bravo-led Trinbago Knight Riders won the championship for the second time in succession, thereby becoming the first team to accomplish the feat in the history of the T20 championship.
The next season promises to be an absolute thriller as well. The eventual list of players, who’ve made themselves available for the tournament has recently been put forth. The list has been sent to the respective teams ahead of the draft that is scheduled to take place in London on Wednesday, May 22.
The number of players, putting forward their names has again seen an upward trend in 2019, much to the organizers’ delight. A total of 536 cricketers from 20 overseas nations and the West Indies are available to be picked by the six participating teams.

The list includes some of the best players in the format including the likes of Jofra Archer, Shakib Al Hasan, JP Duminy, Rashid Khan and Alex Hales along with the Windies stars like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer.
“The fact that so many players have registered for our draft is a testament to the stature of our league. Playing cricket in the Caribbean is something that all players look forward to, and the CPL combines that allure with a high standard of cricket. We expect that this year’s tournament will be no different.” Michael Hall, CPL Tournament Operations Director was quoted as saying in CPL’s official website.
Before the draft, each team will have the option to retain and/or release a maximum of six players, but there won’t be any obligation to do so. The broadcast of the draft will be on the CPL social media platforms from 2 PM GMT.
The players that the teams can potentially retain are as follows:
Minimum of three Windies players, a maximum of four
Maximum of one overseas player, reduced to none if four Windies players retained
A Marquee Player whether retained or acquired
