3 Indian players who might not get chance in playing XI on England tour
With stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Tests, the attention will now be on a young team under Shubman Gill.
1. Dhruv Jurel
India's back-up wicketkeeper-batter, Dhruv Jurel, who had a brilliant run in the recent unofficial Test series against England Lions, is unlikely to find a place in the senior men's playing XI for the upcoming Test series in England. Jurel, who hammered scores of 94 and an unbeaten 53 at Canterbury, has been named in the squad mainly as a backup wicket-keeper to vice-captain Rishabh Pant.
Pant, who has returned to Test cricket after a long injury layoff, is the first-choice keeper and is set to play at the No. 5 position. Even if Pant becomes unavailable, India might look at KL Rahul to don the gloves. Moreover, India are likely to opt for a deep lower order that sees both pace-bowling all-rounders like Nitish Kumar Reddy or Shardul Thakur, especially considering the seam-friendly English conditions. This will book the slots at No. 6 and No. 7, leaving little room for Jurel to be included even as a specialist batter.
