India scripted history by defeating Australia at the Gabba in 2021 while retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and ending Australia's 32-year unbeaten streak at the venue. Australia scored 369 in the first innings, with Marnus Labuschagne making 108. India’s inexperienced attack, T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar, picked up three wickets each.

India replied with 336, with the help of Thakur (67) and Sundar (62), and Josh Hazlewood took five wickets. In the second innings, Siraj’s five-for restricted Australia to 294. India had to chase 328, where Shubman Gill scored 91 and Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 89 while leading India to a thrilling three-wicket win and one of their greatest Test triumphs.
