IPL: Teams with most No Results & Ties in a single season – Updated List

The Indian Premier League has been witness to several thrilling clashes over the years. Ever since the marquee T20 tournament's inception in 2008, the league has provided a platform for adrenaline-charged cricketing action. The brand value of the competition has only grown due to such contests being played on a regular basis. However, there have been several instances of fixtures either ending with no decisive result (mainly due to rain) or the match ending in a tie with both sides ending up with identical scores at the end of their respective 20-over innings. While a win ensures a couple of points, contests ending up being declared as a no result due to inclement weather end up with each side securing a point apiece. On the other hand, a tie has been followed by a Super Over which has had a history of going either way. Both these outcomes add an element of unpredictably to an already dynamic tournament. Both sides ended up on 191/6 at the end of their stipulated 20 overs. Left-handed Shaun Marsh registered 65 (40) to earn the Player of the Match award. Both the sides ended up losing couple of wickets in the Super Over. However, KXIP scored nine runs in excess of RR's tally (15/2 vs 6/2). Both the innings of the Super Over involved a run-out. IPL 2015, Match 29: Sarfaraz Khan vs RR (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Games against KKR and RCB on April 26 and April 29 ended up being abandoned without a ball being bowled and as a no result, respectively. The match at the Eden Gardens did not see any action. On the other hand, the game against RCB could produce only one innings. RCB ended up posting 200/7 after being asked to bat first. The Chinnaswamy hosted another game disrupted by rain. This one was against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), when the visitors got to 187/5 after being put in to bat first. A couple of sixties by Quinton de Kock (69 off 39) and JP Duminy (67* off 43) led the way for DD. Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal secured a couple of wickets each. Punjab Kings: 2020 - 2 (both tied) PBKS finished sixth on the points table in the 2020 edition. There was a period where the franchise won five games on the trot. However, a couple of losses in their final league-phase games meant that the runners-up of the 2014 edition missed out on making the top four for the sixth straight season. Mohammed Shami starred with a three-fer. Barring Marcus Stoinis, who notched up 53 off 21, none of the others came anywhere near matching his tempo. Mayank Agarwal anchored the run-chase with 89 off 60. However, he received minimal effort from the others. A stunning collapse meant the game would be decided via a Super Over. PBKS lost their wickets in the first three deliveries as DC clinched the win at the end. IPL 2020, Match 36: KL Rahul vs MI (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) PBKS' second experience with the Super Over came against Mumbai Indians at the same venue, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Opting to bat first, MI got to 176/6. Glenn Maxwell (0/24 in four overs), who opened the bowling, was the joint-most economical bowler for PBKS along with Ravi Bishnoi (1/12 in two overs). Shami contributed with two wickets. As for the run-chase, KL Rahul top-scored with 71. With the scores level on 176/6, the game entered the Super Over. In an encounter for the ages, the first Super Over ended up with both sides scoring five. A second one had to be played out to decide the winner of the faceoff. Mumbai Indians: 2020 - 2 (both tied) MI emerged as the champions of the 2020 edition of the IPL. They topped the round-robin stage with a points tally of 18 and a net run rate of +1.107. They then prevailed over DC twice (Qualifier 1 and final) to seal the title for a fifth time. MI had to undergo a couple of Super Over games during the group-stage. IPL 2025, Match 10: Ishan Kishan vs RCB (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Their first Super Over came against RCB as MI could only take three of RCB's wickets. The latter mounted 201 on the board with fifties from Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 40), Aaron Finch (52 off 35) and de Villiers (unbeaten 24-ball 55). MI seemed down and out in the second innings as they were 78/4 in 11.4 overs. Ishan Kishan (99 off 58) and Kieron Pollard (60* off 24) were the sole reasons due to which they could end up with the same score as that of RCB. Navdeep Saini conceded only seven during the Super Over. But two boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah ensured RCB got over the line. A late flourish from Pollard (34* off 12) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (24* off 12) led MI to end up with 176/6. Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball, conceding only 24 in his four overs for up three wickets. Boult could not repeat the heroics of Bumrah as the match was lost in the second Super Over of the evening.
