Most player of the match awards for India in ODIs since 2022

The ODI format has been the safe haven of the Indian team over the years but the team has not achieved the desired results in the ICC events in the format. In Champions Trophy 2017, they reached the finals and were shockingly defeated by Pakistan after every pundit had termed them favourite before the game. Their defeat in the World Cup 2019 semifinal proved that the team lacks the gas in knockouts in the format. The team was in dire need of a 50-over glory and the ODI World Cup 2023 was the stage for it. After being almost indispensable in the bilateral series, they won every game in the tournament before succumbing to Australia in the final. Now the eyes will be on the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 and they will rely on their key players to take matters into their own hands. These players have been game changers since 2022 for the team. He is having trouble getting back into the groove in the red-ball cricket and this has become a concern for the Indian team ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. But the man is known to step up on big occasions as evident in his 648 runs in World Cup 2019 with a whopping five centuries. At present, he is the player with the most number of centuries (7) in 50 over World Cups. Speaking of his performance since 2022, the 'Hitman' has won four Player of the Match (POTM) awards in 40 matches. Notably, in as many innings, he scored 1,782 runs at an average of 50.91 and the highest score of 131 runs, which came against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 games played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi. 4. Shreyas Iyer Ahead of World Cup 2019, there was much debate on the unsettled number four of Team India in the batting lineup. Incidentally after the loss in the semifinal, this particular aspect became fodder for the critics as India failed to chase a decent target against New Zealand in Manchester. Over the years, Shreyas Iyer has taken the charge and has proved his mettle batting in the position more often than not. Since 2022, Iyer has played 42 ODIs and has been adjudged Man of the Match in four games. He has scored 1,711 runs at an impressive average of 50.32 and a highest score of unbeaten 128. Speaking of his highest score, it came against Netherlands during the ODI World Cup 2023 game and was the Player of the Match. He also played a crucial knock in the semifinal against New Zealand in the same tournament, scoring 105 runs. 3. Shubman Gill Shubman Gill. Though he is going through a Test slump, his form in white-ball cricket has never dipped of sorts that he could be ruled out of the fray. Since 2022, he has played 46 ODIs for India and has won five Player of the Matches. Meanwhile, he has also scored 2,426 runs at an average of 62.20 with a highest score of 208 runs, which came against New Zealand in January 2023. Other than the Player of the Match recognition, he has also won three Man of the Series awards for his consistent gameplay. He has shown his prowess by becoming the Player of the Tournament in World Cup 2023. He scored 765 runs from 11 matches and set a new World Cup record in the 2023 edition. Since 2022, the right-handed batter has played 42 matches and has scored 1,742 runs at an average of 51.23 and the highest score of unbeaten 166* runs, which came against Sri Lanka in January 2023. (Source:X/Twitter) Mohammed Shami has been an integral part of the Indian pace attack over the years. When paired with Jasprit Bumrah, this Indian pace duo becomes a force to reckon with. He was the highest wicket-taker in World Cup 2023, as he picked up 24 wickets in just seven games. He is also the first Indian pacer and overall fourth in the list of highest wickets in World Cups with 55 wickets in just 18 games. The right-arm pacer missed the whole of 2024 due to his Achilles heel injury and entered the international setup only during the recent T20I series against England in January 2025. Since 2022, he has played only 24 ODIs and has picked 49 wickets at an impressive average of 18.95. During the course, he has won five Player of the Match accolades. His best figures of 7/57 came against New Zealand during the World Cup 2023 game in Mumbai. Quite remarkably, these was also the best figures for any Indian bowler in ODIs.
