POTM Suryakumar Yadav said:

"I have done this after a long time. I fielded for 20 overs and batted for 18 overs, only tired (nothing else to worry about.) I feel it was the need of the hour for me. I went out to bat, needed someone to bat till the end. I just enjoyed my time. It's from the Mumbai school of arts, have played a lot of cricket at Wankhede. When the ball stopped seaming, I played all my shots that I practice in the nets. I feel the intent would have been the same, I would have definitely played in the same pattern," Yadav said.

Winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav said:

"We want to focus on playing good cricket, still think we gave 10-15 runs extra. The way the batters batter, that was excellent. My bowling, I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Bowled in the right areas today and it worked. I was like Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side. You got to be accurate, the margin of errors have become smaller these days for the bowlers. It's unbelievable, the best past of SKY is that he puts the bowlers under pressure. It's sheer confidence, his game has changed, is one of the best batters. He can change a game in a different way, lucky to have him (SKY) in our side," Pandya said.

Losing skipper Pat Cummins said:

"Probably a couple short, at the Wankhede you want as many as you can get. You always feel like youā€™re in, the wicket had a little bit in it so we were definitely in the game. I think Sanvir helped us get to that 170 instead of 150, ideally weā€™d have a bowler. Itā€™s T20 cricket, and it doesn't always work out. SKY played really well. We like playing at home, weā€™ll wait and see whatā€™s ahead of us. Hopefully a few more fireworks," Cummins said.

FALLBACK

The action shifts back to Wankhede Stadium which is yet to see the home team have a run of outstanding performances for its fans. Mumbai Indians (MI) clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 55 of IPL 2024 on Monday, May 6 in what promises to be a high-voltage, high-scoring game.

Mumbai are reeling at the bottom of the table after Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a big win on Saturday, May 4 against Gujarat Titans in the garden city. Despite winning only three out of 11 matches the home team is still in with a mathematical, but improbable, chance to qualify for the Playoffs. They did not have a good outing in their previous match, which was at the same venue, against Kolkata Knight Riders. After having the opposition on the mat (57/5), Mumbai let the advantage slip away and conceded a total of 169 runs.

In response, the batting unit failed big time. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav (56 runs off 35 balls), nobody from the top and middle order got into double figures. MI were 71/6 and Suryakumar's and Tim David's (24 runs off 20 balls) partnership gave the home team hope, but alas, it was extinguished by smart bowling from the KKR unit.

Mumbai would be looking for a turnaround of their fortunes in this match to continue to have whatever chances they can get to qualify.

The Sun rises again for the Sunrisers Hyderabad

After a couple of losses, SRH finally managed to win again. They beat Rajasthan Royals by the barest of margin of one run at home to bring their campaign back on track. SRH are currently placed at fourth position on the points table with six wins out of 10 matches. With the competition for the four playoff spots tight, they would not want to lose momentum.

Notably, SRH have not been able to play the way they had been earlier in the tournament. In the last match, despite scoring 201 in the first innings they did not look their fluent best. When they came on to bowl Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the team an inspired start, claiming two massive wickets of Buttler and Samson in the first over itself. However, a 134-run partnership followed between Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal almost putting the game in RR's pocket until Natarajan, Cummins and Bhuvneshwar again brought the game back to equilibrium with the latter winning it for his side off the last ball.

The last time MI and SRH clashed, the latter scored the then highest innings total ever of 277/3 with MI falling short by 31 runs. They would be looking for not just revenge but also momentum to turn their campaign around.
