The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the new members for the selection committee with former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma set to rejoin the board as the Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.

BCCI received around 600 applications for the selection committee after the previous panel was disbanded following India's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Along with Sharma, Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola and Sridharan Sharath will form the five-member committee.

"The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022," BCCI said in an official statement.

"Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews. Based on the interviews, the Committee has recommended the following candidates for the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee."

The Chetan Sharma-led previous selection committee was sacked after the T20 World Cup

It is worth noting that Sharma served as the head of the BCCI selection committee from December 2020 until the entire panel was sacked in the aftermath of the T20 World Cup 2022. The 1983 World Cup winner had reapplied for the post and the CAC recommended him to continue as the chairman of the selection committee while adding four new faces to the panel.

Among the new arrivals to the committee, Ankola, the ex-Indian cricketer, was serving as the chief of Mumbai's selection panel since December 17, 2020 while Sharath has been serving as the chairman of the Junior National Selection Committee since September 2021.
