'Bumrah has this economy in T20s' - Irfan Pathan slams Prasidh Krishna for expensive spells in first Test
Prasidh conceded 220 runs in the 35 overs he bowled during the recently-concluded first Test of the series.
Former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan, expressed dissatisfaction on Prasidh Krishna's economy rate after the conclusion of the first Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India. For the unversed, Prasidh conceded 220 runs in 35 overs while picking up five wickets across both innings.
Irfan urged Prasidh to be adaptive as per specific batters in the future, emphasising he had the attributes like height and pace to succeed in the red-ball format for a long, long time. He also compared his economy rate in the game to Bumrah's in T20 cricket
"Just look at his economy combining both the innings. He is at No. 2 in terms of the worst economy for a fast bowler in history. Bumrah has this economy in T20s, nearly 6.50 [6.88]. So, he will have to concentrate on his economy. He has good height and pace. He will have to learn as soon as possible how to bowl a consistent area according to the batter," shared Irfan while speaking on Sony Sports.
The performance was much better in the second innings: Karim
Reviewing the game alongside Irfan was former Indian cricketer, Saba Karim, as well. He concurred with Irfan's point and underlined that Prasidh needed to work hard on landing the ball in the right areas more often than not.
"He is leaking a lot of runs. It won't work out like that. The performance was much better in the second innings. He bowled well in different, different spells. As Irfan said, he changed his length and benefited because of that. However, he is still giving too much width or bowling too short at times. He needs to work hard on that," remarked Karim.
India were defeated by five wickets after Ben Stokes' batters were successful in chasing down 371 in the fourth innings. Prasidh registered the third-worst economy rate (6.28) for bowlers to have bowled a minimum of 35 overs in a single Test for at least twenty over bowled.
Moving on, the second game of the series will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham. It will be intriguing to see the alterations made in the side after the thumping loss. Chances are more than likely for Prasidh to make it to the XI. It will be fascinating to see how the Shubman Gill-led outfit responds to the setback, and if any replacements to the pace attack are named.
