'Clarity of mind is going to be important for Yashasvi Jaiswal,' R Ashwin backs opener to return to form
The Indian off-spinner believes the talented opener needs mental focus to regain form after getting dismissed early in both innings of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has struggled to maintain consistency in recent matches, and his performance in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle has intensified concerns about his form. The Indian opener faced a difficult outing in both innings, raising questions about his ability to bounce back to his best. Despite his undoubted talent, Jaiswal has found runs hard to come by in this phase of his career.
Ravichandran Ashwin has offered his perspective on what the young batter needs to do to rediscover his touch. The off-spinner said that Jaiswal was unlucky to be dismissed run-out for 32 in the first innings. However, the duck he registered in the second innings is something that he needs to look back at and work on.
KL Rahul continued his form, he came in to bat after cramps but could not get his hundred, but I think it was fantastic from him. Yashasvi Jaiswal was unlucky in the first innings, and the way he got out, he can relook that, that second-innings dismissal of his. He is a very, very good player, but his recent form has not supported him," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin pointed out that Jaiswal's recent form has not supported his talent level. The experienced cricketer stressed that with the right mindset and concentration, the opener has the ability to turn things around. Ashwin's backing suggests confidence in Jaiswal's potential to overcome this rough patch and return to consistent run-scoring.
"I think clarity of mind is really important for Yashasvi, and I really hope he can come back to that, concentrate well on his batting, and score a big one. Despite having so much talent, he is going through this phase, anybody can go through this phase, but for Yashasvi, I am waiting for him to score runs," Ashwin stated.

The 24-year-old has played two Tests so far this year and scored 56 runs at an average of 18.66. He would be hoping to get back among the runs when India and Sri Lanka lock horns in the second Test in Colombo, starting on Sunday, August 23.
