Shreyas is on the road to recovery, the BCCI confirmed.
Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding, on Saturday, October 25 during the third ODI against Australia.
The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress.
What exactly happened to Shreyas Iyer?
Iyer, an important part of the Indian team, was fielding at the backward point region during the third and final ODI of the series against Australia on October 25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On a delivery by Harshit Rana in the 34th over, Australia's Alex Carey attempted a wild slog, but that created a chance for Iyer, as he covered a lot of ground while running behind and completed a spectacular catch.
However, upon completing the catch, the 30-year-old landed awkwardly on his stomach, resulting in a blow around his rib cage area. Upon leaving the SCG and being hospitalized, the scans confirmed that the cricketer underwent a lot of internal bleeding. Taking swift action, Iyer was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where the treatment procedures were started promptly at the St. Vincent's Private Hospital, Sydney.

If the reports are to be believed, Iyer is told to have survived a fatal accident, as the injury being a little more serious could have turned out to be a life-threatening one. However, BCCI physio Kamlesh Jain and his support staff wasted no time and ensured that Iyer received the best and timely treatment as one of the most valuable batters in the side, currently. He is expected to be discharged by the end of this week now.
