India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has shared some interesting information regarding how his wife, Devisha Shetty, helped him regain the lost form with the batting. Suryakumar was back among runs, scoring a blistering fifty in the second T20I between India and New Zealand.

The Indian slipper starred with a magnificent 82-run knock that led India’s chase and played a key role in their comprehensive win in Raipur. But the reason he gave for maintaining such calm and intent during his innings was about an unexpected piece of advice from his better half.

Talking about his mindset during the innings, he said that one simple suggestion from his spouse has stuck with him and helped him keep focus in pressure situations.

"We all have a coach at home, the one you are married to. She keeps asking me to take some time. She has seen it all and can read my mind. So, I took her advice and played carefully. I took time in the last game and even in today’s game. I felt better. I’ve been telling everyone that I was doing well in the nets. But until you score in the matches you don’t feel that confidence. I utilized the 2-3 days break properly, even went home. I completely cut off social media. I practised well in the last 2-3 weeks, which brought me into a good space. Remaining happy is very important,” said India captain after the match.

Want to end the perception that India wins only when Abhishek scores: Suryakumar Yadav

The right-hander opened up about his side’s dominant victory. While crediting Abhishek Sharma for his consistency, he opined that he is happy that the victory has come without any contribution from Abhishek, challenging the narrative that India succeeds only when he scores big

"Cricket is sometimes called a great leveller. It’s important to have humility. I also wanted to put an end to the perception that India wins only when Abhishek scores runs. Ishan can win us matches too. However, Abhishek Sharma is one of my favourite batters. I want him to score in every match. It’s a team game. You win when all eleven players contribute. We’ll keep contributing and keep giving you reasons to stay entertained," he concluded.

With this win, India now holds a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against the Black Caps.
